Location, Location, Location The advent of laptops allows us to set up shop wherever we please. While a spare closet might be the sensible spot to hide your supplies, facing a wall while you work isn’t your only option if you have a wireless network. Move your computer to a room with a view for a change of scenery.

Less Is More With the right technology, you may have the need for only one printer per household. When you have several family members who need to do homework, conduct business, and surf the Internet, a shared office location could be the solution. In that case, consider a large, durable surface for a desktop that can accommodate multiple chairs.

Modern Makeover Long gone are the days of bulky desks that weigh a ton and take up way too much space. But you can’t forget about storage altogether. Transportable options have greater appeal, such as decorative boxes and rolling file carts.  Labeled baskets and bins help you find everything in a pinch while concealing clutter.

Color Efficiency is essential in your work space, which is why you should choose a hue that inspires you to get the job done. If you prefer mostly neutral tones, think about painting one piece of furniture with a lacquer finish for a fresh, new look. Add some pizzazz with file folders that sport an animal print to give your tired work space a contemporary spin.

New and Improved Bar-height counters are one of the latest home office trends. They make it easy to check e-mail while standing without putting a strain your back. An adjustable-height desk is another option that offers tremendous flexibility for the task at hand. Wall-mounted storage, such as magazine racks and shelves, is ideal for tight spaces.

Working from    Home Never Looked So Good
It wasn’t so long ago that having a home office was downright rare. Now the concept has gone to the top of the list. Whether you’re looking for the right location, a great organization system, ergonomically correct seating, or all of the above, you’re not alone. Today, people are eager to outfit this hardworking space.
Luckily, all work and no play is not the motto when it comes to doing so. Instead, you can venture past the practical by personalizing your home office. When you opt for part productivity and part creativity, you’re sure to get the best results.

Sitting Pretty Proper seating should be a top priority. It’s fine to go with a flea-market find if you sit for only a few minutes at a time. If you plan to linger a little longer, an upholstered chair is a popular option. But you should go with an ergonomically correct desk chair if you stay seated for much of the day. Test out the contenders in order to make an informed decision.

What’s Old Is New Repurpose vintage and antique finds or tweak contemporary pieces for a twist on the predictable. For instance, a small stool can double as the perfect perch for your paperwork while providing impromptu seating for a guest. An old bowl can keep loose ends such as scotch tape, staples, and paper clips at bay. Written by Jeanine Matlow.
